What technology plays a major role in interorganizational and international information systems? Why?

The technologies that play a major role in interorganizational and international information systems are:

Networking which links systems together that allow people from geographical areas to use the system and be connected. Business to business trading can make doing business with other affiliated companies much more convenient by having systems linked together for a better working relationship. Free conference calls would help save on corporate expenses by connecting and allowing everyone to be involved in a conference call at the same versus making several individual calls.

The reason why is that they support basic operations, managerial decision making and key to global economy.

Over the past decade, banks and investment firms have offered many services that would be impossible without IS's. Describe three such services and explain why it makes them possible.

1. On-line banking where you can pay your bills and transfer money from your banking accounts to other accounts.

2. On-line trading could trade stocks for a small amount.

3. Apply for loans on line which would save time from having to fill the paper work out at the financial institutions to find out whether an individual qualifies for a loan.

Comprehensive Test Question 1.

1. What are some common types of reports generated by a management information system? How can they be used?

Some common reports generated by a management information system are:

Scheduled Reports are produced periodically, or on a schedule, such as a daily, weekly, or monthly. Example: Manufacturing Report.

Key Indicator Report summarizes the previous day's critical activities and is typically available at the beginning of each week. Example: Can summarize inventory levels, production activity and sales volume.

Demand Reports are developed to provide certain information upon request. Example: Reports requested by executives to show the hours worked by a particular employee.

Exception Reports are reports that are automatically produced when a situation is unusual or requires management action. Example: A manager might set a parameter that generates a report of all inventory items with fewer than the equivalent of five days of sales on hand.

Drill-Down Reports provide increasingly detailed data about a situation. Example: Using these drill down reports, analysts can see data at a high level first, then at a more detailed level, and then a very detailed level.

Weekly Blog What Are Your Top Three Favorite Fruits???

What Are Your Top Three Favorite Fruits

What are your top three favorite fruits? Why are those particular fruits your favorite? Is it the taste, the color, the smell, the cost, what?? My top three favorite fruits are mango's, watermelons and strawberries.

I just love the way a mango smells when you cut into it. It has a very sweet aroma and it tastes best when its kind of firm and juicy. The taste is most delightful, it almost makes your taste buds smile.

A watermelon is another fruit that I enjoy eating. If you pick a good one, when you cut into it, it fills the room with a fresh, summer aroma. I love to eat it cold as possible and without salt. I had to train myself to enjoy it in it's pure form by nature.

And last, my delectable strawberries. You can do many things with strawberries. You can add them to salads, dip them in brown or white chocolate, make smoothies out of them, the ideas are endless. I love them most just as is after they have been thoroughly washed. I hold them by the stem and just take as big a bite as I possibly can. I also like to eat them with cool whip topping and on top of my famous cream cheese pie that my family and friends love so much.

Whatever your favorite fruit it's best to try and eat at least 4-5 fresh fruits a day. They are truly healthy for your body. Maybe your favorite fruit wasn't the same as mine but whatever it is, I hope you enjoy eating them as much as I do my top three!!!

Weekly Blog Taking A Test On An Empty Stomach

Taking A Test On An Empty Stomach

Saturday, July 18th was a very stressful day for me. I started the day out wrong by not eating breakfast knowing that I had to take 2 midterms. I was alright before I walked into class, sat down and began reviewing my material for the test. I knew the information because I had studied but I was still nervous, I get that way at times before a test, I guess it's my nerves playing with my emotions!(lol) Well that was the wrong time to play.(smile) I wasn't aware that we were going to go over new material, I thought we were going to take our midterms and that would be it for the day, not!! Both midterms were taking at the END of lectures. So now I have to go back and try to regroup myself. The computer information systems test to me was the most difficult. There were so many definitions to comprehend for the test, well over one hundred words and we only had 41 questions which I think 10 of those was fill in the blank with the missing word from the definitions. The test consisted of multiple choice questions and matching along with fill in the blank. I didn't really spend as much time studying for this test as I did the quantitative test, but I still passed it with a 79. I could have made higher if I hadn't gone back and changed some of my answers. Word of the wise, always stick with your first answer!!! I aced my quant test!!! Hooray for me!!!(LOL) Only a few more weeks to go and I will be moving on to module 5. For the rest of this week I'll be working on directed study questions and going over the second set of definitions for finals in computer information systems. I most definitely will make higher than a 79 on my final.

Weekly Blog 4th of July Holiday

4TH OF JULY HOLIDAY

My 4th of July holiday was the 1st ever that I did not eat any barbecue, baked beans or watermelon, I was really surprised at that myself. I was home alone and my daughter was visiting with her grandmother. That time alone was well spent doing homework, reading chapters and answering the review questions for my directed studies. I hate waiting at the last minute to get started on my directed studies because one thing you do not want to do is get behind on that!!! I hope everybody had a wonderful holiday, now I'm waiting on the Labor Day holiday to come around.

3. How can these risks be mitigated (made less severe or intense)?

To try and keep from becoming a victim of identity theft from hackers, display less of your personal information as possible and try setting a secret code or password that would have to be administered to retrieve your information and also do back ground checks with the better business bureau on unfamiliar companies. To protect your information from crashing on your computer always try and have from the very beginning a secondary source of saving your information on stand by. For competition among other companies try and stay very competitive by keeping your prices in the same range as other companies. For costly computer software try to find a soft ware that is compatible with your computer system that cost less. To eliminate errors in drop shipping try to eliminate the middle man by buying directly from the manufacturer and shipping orders yourself. Have a disclaimer and terms of condition and privacy.

What are the advantages of a relational database model over other database models?

The advantages relational databases have over other database models is that it’s easier to control and understand, it uses SQL which is an easy and human-readable language. Relational databases have an excellent security which supports access permissions, their performance, power, and also support to new hardware technologies as also flexibility and a capacity to meet all types of data needs. Another advantage is that it has tables with rows and columns to show relationship, has multiple tables, saves money and time and data is not repeated, easier to update and change. What are some database models?

Some different database models are: Flat model which is a plain text or mixed text and binary file which usually contains one record per line or 'physical' record (example on disc).

Network model is a database model conceived as a flexible way of representing objects and their relationships.

Hierarchical is a data model in which the data is organized into a tree like structure implying a single upward link in each record to describe the nesting, and a sort field to keep the records in a particular order in each same-level list.

Dimensional model is a specialized adaptation of the relational model used to represent data in data warehouse in a way that data can be easily summarized using OLAP queries.

Object-oriented model attempt to bring the database world and the application programming world closer together, in particular by ensuring that the database uses the same type system as the application program.

Multi-dimensional is a variation of the relational model that uses multidimensional structures to organize data and express the relationships between data.

Relational database models are data elements that are placed in two dimensional tables called relations and provides a declarative method for specification of data and queries.
